What's the Best Way to Brand Workwear for an Ipswich Trade Business?

For trades across Ipswich and Suffolk — builders, electricians, plumbers, groundworkers, cleaners — branded workwear is a moving advertisement that also tells customers who is at the door. The method that survives that job is almost always embroidery.

Which method suits which garment?

GarmentUsual methodWhy
Polo shirts, softshells, fleecesEmbroiderySurvives daily wear and hot washes
Hoodies and sweatshirtsEmbroidery or printStitch for logos, print for large back designs
Hi-vis vests and jacketsPrint or transferKeeps reflective areas intact
Event and promo teesDTG or screenLower cost where durability matters less

Where should the logo go?

Left chest is the default: visible in conversation, at the door and across a counter. The back panel carries the company name, trade and phone number at a size readable from a driveway — which is where workwear does its advertising. Sleeves and caps take smaller marks.

How does ordering work for a small team?

The logo is digitised once into a stitch file, then applied to every garment in that order and every reorder after it. That structure suits trades well: kit the team out now, add a garment for each new starter later without redoing setup.

For teams also wanting printed tees for events or open days, the method economics change entirely — DTG or screen printing for small runs explains where the crossover sits, and the DTG vs screen printing guide covers all four methods.

What artwork is needed?

Vector artwork (AI, EPS, PDF or SVG) is ideal. Embroidery reproduces bold, simple shapes best — fine gradients and hairline text do not translate into stitches, so logos are often simplified slightly for the stitch file. That conversion is normal and does not change the brand mark.

How long does branded workwear take?

Longer than same-day: digitising and stitching are not 1pm cut-off work, unlike the flat print covered in the same-day printing guide. Plan a few working days, more for larger team orders — and order spares, because the second order for one replacement polo always costs more attention than adding it to the first.

Frequently asked questions

Why is embroidery preferred for workwear?
The design is stitched into the fabric rather than sitting on top of it, so it resists abrasion, hot washing and site wear. On garments worn every day, that durability outlasts printed alternatives comfortably.
Can I order just one or two garments?
Yes. A logo is digitised once into a stitch file and then reused, so replacement garments and new starters can be added in ones and twos afterwards without repeating that step.
What about hi-vis and safety garments?
Hi-vis can be branded, but placement must avoid compromising the reflective bands and certified areas. Print or heat-applied transfer is often used instead of stitching on technical safety wear.
