How to Export a Print-Ready File From Canva (Step by Step)

To get a print-ready file out of Canva: turn on bleed view (File → Settings → Show print bleed), keep text inside the margin guides, then Share → Download → PDF Print with Crop marks and bleed ticked. Canva Pro users should also select CMYK as the colour profile. That produces a file most printers, including us, can run unchanged.

Step by step

1. Set the design at the trimmed size (e.g. A5 = 148×210mm) — Canva adds the bleed itself.
2. File → Settings → Show print bleed, and Show margins.
3. Extend background colours/photos to the outer bleed line; keep text inside the margin line.
4. Share → Download → PDF Print.
5. Tick "Crop marks and bleed"; Pro accounts: colour profile → CMYK.
6. Check the PDF: you should see crop marks and artwork extending past them.

Common Canva mistakes we see

Text touching the trim edge (it will look cramped or get clipped); free-account RGB exports with neon colours that dull in CMYK; designs built at the wrong size then stretched; and downloading "PDF Standard" instead of "PDF Print" — Standard is 96dpi and unusable.
