Long Sleeves, Vests, Polos and Aprons: Printing Beyond the Basic T-Shirt

The same print methods work across long-sleeves, vests, polos, aprons, tote bags and caps — but each has its own printable area and best method. A guide to decorating garments beyond the standard tee.

The methods that print t-shirts — DTF, screen, vinyl, embroidery, sublimation — work across the whole garment range, but each item has its own printable area and preferred method. Polos suit embroidery; aprons take print or embroidery well; caps need embroidery or specialist transfer; tote bags print easily; vests and long-sleeves follow t-shirt rules with position tweaks. Here's how each behaves.

Caps are the special case

Cap fronts are curved and structured, which rules out flat heat presses — embroidery is the standard (it follows the curve), with specialist cap-transfer methods as an alternative. Design caps for a small, bold area; fine detail struggles on the curve and weave.

Aprons and hospitality

Aprons are a hospitality staple — an embroidered logo on the chest or bib reads as professional and survives commercial washing, while DTF handles colourful café branding. Part of a coordinated hospitality uniform.

Tote bags: easy merch

Flat, cotton and simple to print, totes are among the easiest items to decorate and a reliable merch and event giveaway. DTF or screen, single or double sided.

FAQ

Can you print all these in one order? Yes — a mixed garment order (polos, tees, aprons, totes) is common; method is matched per item. Caps with a printed logo? Embroidery is standard; ask about transfer options for detailed logos. Best item for retail merch? Tote bags and tees — cheap, easy, popular.
