How Should You Wash Printed T-Shirts to Make Them Last?

Why heat is the enemy

Most print methods bond with heat — and excessive later heat (hot washes, tumble dryers, direct ironing) is exactly what breaks that bond down over time. Cold washing and air drying keep transfers and inks intact far longer. This matters most for DTF and vinyl, less for sublimation, which is dyed in and near-indestructible.

Ironing printed shirts

If you must iron, do it inside out, or place a cloth between the iron and the print. Direct high heat on a print can scorch, gloss or lift it. Sublimated garments iron normally (nothing sits on the surface).

First wash

Wait 24 hours after receiving fresh prints before the first wash where possible, and wash that first cycle cold and alone. It lets everything fully cure and settle.
