What Does 16pp Mean? Booklet Page Counts Explained

"16pp" means sixteen pages, not sheets — pp is "printed pages", counting every face including covers. A saddle-stitched (stapled) booklet is made from sheets folded in half, and each folded sheet contributes exactly four pages. That's why booklet page counts must be multiples of four: 8pp, 12pp, 16pp, 20pp.

What if my content makes 14 pages?

You can't print 14pp stapled. Either cut to 12pp or pad to 16pp — a notes page, a full-page image, or breathing space in the layout. Design to a multiple of four from the start and you'll never firefight this.

Do covers count in the number?

Yes — a "16pp self-cover" booklet is 16 total faces including the covers. "16pp + 4pp cover" means 16 inner pages plus a separate, usually heavier, cover sheet: 20 faces total. Say which you mean when ordering; it changes the price.

How many pages can a stapled booklet take?

Comfortably up to about 40pp at 130gsm; beyond that the spine rounds and pages creep outward ([binding options compared](/blog/booklet-binding-options — see /guides/booklet-binding-options)). Wire binding takes over from there.
